The distinctive uniform of Christ’s Hospital is one of the School's most public and enduring features. It is remarkable that in this age of rapidly-changing fashions, the outer long blue coat and distinctive yellow socks of the uniform have remained virtually unchanged for over 460 years.
With an incredible journey of exploration that started 350 years ago in 1673 the Royal Mathematical School (RMS) at Christ’s Hospital has been transforming the lives of its students for generations.
The get-up consists of a long blue coat, belted at the waist, worn with matching knee-breeches, yellow socks, and white neckbands. Girls at the school don the same coat, but with matching skirts. While boasting many historic elements, the school does have a particularly modern outlook.
Christ’s Hospital is a unique Sussex school that is best known for its philosophy of challenging “inequality by providing a nurturing, transformative education for young people from all backgrounds”, for its impressive bursary programme, its distinctive Tudor uniforms, and the outstanding education and opportunities it provides.
