"Concerning the Jews" is an 1899 short essay by Mark Twain. Twain had lived in Austria during 1896, and opined that the Habsburg empire used Jews as scapegoats to maintain unity in their immensely diverse empire.
Jan 18, 2016 · "Concerning the Jews" is one of Mark Twain's most notable non-fiction works and a landmark in writing about Jews, especially among non-Jews. As with African Americans, Twain's comments are sadly often taken out of context to make him seem anti-Semitic, but "Concerning" undeniably shows that he was a passionate Jewish defender.

Jan 1, 1985 · Twain's contention is that anti-Semitism existed before Christ and that the main source of criticism of Jews is the fact that they do better in business than others. He proposes that they take a greater part in politics to protect themselves.
He urges leaders to ban Jewish literature in order to stop Jews from studying their blasphemous texts. His struggle to determine it relates to the way Jews are both a religious and an ethnic group. Can knowing of Christ save the Jews?
