She won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical in 1977 for her performance as Miss Hannigan in Annie.
She starred in the sitcom Dorothy (1979) in which she portrayed a former showgirl teaching music and drama at a boarding school for girls, but the show was canceled after one season. She also appeared briefly (1993) on the daytime soap All My Children (1970).
