Jul 23, 2013 · Completed in 1861, Fort Point is a massive brick and granite fortification constructed to defend the San Francisco Bay from naval attack. Rendered obsolete with the development of rifled artillery during the Civil War, Fort Point's guns were removed by 1900. It never fired a shot in hostility.
