Lotus 78 ( John Player Special Mk. III) The Lotus 78 was a Formula One racing car used in the 1977 and 1978 seasons. It was designed by Peter Wright, Colin Chapman, Martin Ogilvie and Tony Rudd, and was the first ground effect car in Formula One.
1973 Lotus Europa Twin Cam John Player Special (JPS) About John Player Special: The JPS was a limited edition for Lotus to celebrate their 1972 World Championship title. All JPS's were painted black with gold pinstrips and included factory alloy wheels and a 5-speed transaxle.
This 1973 Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special features a John Player Special livery over a black interior, and power is supplied by a twin-cam 1.6-liter “big valve” inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle.
To honour Team Lotus’s victory in the 1972 and 1973 F1 World Championships, John Player Special (JPS) was released to commemorate the success. The cars were number-badged (numbered JPS dashboard badge) and painted black with gold pinstripes to honour that 1972 F1 World Championship title.

John Player's brands are well known in motor racing from their long association with the Lotus Formula One team, the Forsythe Racing Champ Car team, and Norton motorcycle racing team. Ford introduced the John Player Special limited edition Capri, (known as the JPS) in March 1975.
