Apr 7, 2021 · Seventy-six years have passed since Kramer, called the “Beast of Belsen,” was hanged. Parts of the memoir of his hangman, Pierrepoint, now appear for the first time in a book written by journalist and Holocaust researcher Itamar Levin.

During the trial Anita Lasker testified that Kramer had taken part in selections for the gas chamber at Auschwitz. Kramer was sentenced to death on 17 November 1945, for crimes both at Auschwitz and at Bergen-Belsen, and was hanged at Hamelin Prison by Albert Pierrepoint on 13 December 1945, aged 39. References

During the trial, the press labelled Grese as "the Beautiful Beast" alongside former SS-Hauptsturmführer Josef Kramer ("the Beast of Belsen"), the former commandant at Birkenau. After a nine-week trial, Grese was sentenced to death by hanging.

Officially called the "Trial of Josef Kramer and 44 others", [1] [better source needed] the trial began in a Lüneburg gymnasium on 17 September 1945, within the British occupation zone.
Oct 6, 2014 · On 15 April 1945, Irma Grese was captured by the British together with Josef Kramer and SS guards who remained in the camp. During the following days they were forced to help bury the thousands of deceased prisoners into mass graves.
