The $45 million facility is 300,000 square feet located at 6500 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines. The building includes four basketball courts, three pickleball courts, one full-size indoor soccer field, an esports center and two ice rinks. There's also room for additional activities in open spaces, such as kickball, taekwondo or bags.
The RecPlex is for people of any athletic ability or interest. The building has spaces for corporate or recreational meetings and is handicap accessible. Rental feesare the same for West Des Moines residents and those outside of the city.
The RecPlex is about 75% completed, Ratcliff said. Still to be finished are the hardwood floors, which should be done by mid-November, and the gaming consoles for the eSports room have not yet arrived.
