Nov 15, 2018 · On December 11th, HBO will premiere a new documentary titled “Momentum Generation,” which is about, you guessed it, the crew of early-‘90s surf stars who became the subjects of filmmaker Taylor Steele’s punk-infused, genre-disrupting surf films.
In 1992, Steele released a 35-minute VHS film entitled Momentum. The film showcases a blend of punk rock music and surfing. In his early career Steele collaborated with figures such as Kelly Slater , Shane Dorian , Big Todd Levy and Rob Machado , as well as musicians including Blink-182 , Pennywise and The Offspring .
The Momentum Generation is the name given to a tight-knit group of professional surfers that marked an era in the sport. In the early 1990s, a new school crew of surf stars started hanging out together in a small house on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
