Orel Puppington is the main protagonist and titular character of the series. He is Clay and Bloberta Puppington's son, as weIl as Shapey's older maternal half brother. Orel is patient, curious and unconditionally nice, all rare traits in Moralton.
Throughout the season, the series' primary characters are introduced and various subplots are established, such as Orel's father being a closeted bisexual in love with Orel's gym teacher, and Orel's mother being an unhappily married housewife feeling trapped in her marriage.
Stephanie Putty, née Foamwire, is the pierced proprietor of Moralton's lone sex and piercings shop, Buried Pleasures, as well as a recurring character. She is Reverend Putty's daughter and serves as a maternal figure to Orel .
