May 4, 2017 · Revenge of the Fifth refers to the unofficial fan holiday celebrated on May 5th, the day after Star Wars Day (May 4th). In addition to celebrating the villians of the Star Wars film series, fans use the fifth as a tongue-cheek inverse holiday to celebrate the kitschier side of Star Wars.
While May 5 is also Cinco de Mayo, National Teacher Day and -- in some places -- National Hoagie Day, Star Wars call it Revenge of the Fifth. But how did Revenge of the Fifth -- or, for that matter, May the Fourth -- even start?
Revenge of the 5th, celebrated on May 5, is a play on words that “Star Wars” fans came up with to set up a date to celebrate the Revenge of the Sith every year. This day celebrates the Dark Side of the Force since the day before is dedicated mainly to the Jedi.
In recognition of cinco de mayo, return of the fifth ends by 11am. It’ll be a breakfast celebration. And the revenge of the sixth won’t start until after 11am so more of a brunch hangover cure affair.
May 5, 2024 · The event was allegedly so successful that fans came up with the idea of “Revenge of the Fifth” to extend the holiday to the following day. The date of the celebration is, however, a little unfortunate since it coincides with Mexico’s Cinco de Mayo – when the country commemorates its victory over the French in 1862.

Back on May 4th, 1979, two years after the theatrical release of Star Wars, the phrase May the Fourth was coined for the first time.
May 5, 2017 · In 2012, Victor Medina and his friend Eric Shirey created Revengeofthe5th.net after Medina’s nephew made a “Revenge of the Fifth” joke on May 4. Though the website was borne of a “Revenge of the Sith” pun, the day became an alternative (or companion) to May the Fourth.
