[3] Life and early career. Robert De Niro Sr. was born in Syracuse, New York, to an Irish-American mother, Helen M. ( née O'Reilly; 1899–1999).
In 2014, De Niro appeared in a documentary about his father, Robert De Niro Sr., titled Remembering the Artist Robert De Niro Sr. which aired on HBO. In 2015, he starred in Nancy Meyers ' comedy The Intern alongside Anne Hathaway .
