Released in September 1997, the album reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 21 on the Billboard 200. On 3 December 2008, Universal Music Japan re-released Dummy and Portisheadas a limited SHM-CD version.
Portishead received critical acclaim upon its release. Spin praised the record and noted that the band created a “gothic”, “deadly” and “trippy” atmosphere. Commenting on the textures of the music, music journalist Barry Walters observed that the group got “darker, deeper and more disturbing” in comparison to their previous effort Dummy.
...and as much as I wish that there was an actual song by an actual group called The Sean Atkins Experience actually called "Hookers & Gin," I actually appreciate the fact that they actually made up a fictional band and song and actually listed in their sample credits.
Atkins is a shifty undersized slot WR with experience as a return man and special teamer. He is trustworthy in the red zone and short yardage situations, consistently winning with COD and foot speed that pulls away from LB’s and DB’s.
