Weissmuller was under contract to BVD to model underwear and swimsuits; MGM got him released by agreeing to pose many of its female stars in BVD swimsuits.

Weissmuller filmed his final Tarzan movie, Tarzan and the Mermaids, in 1948; in the same year, he signed on to star in the Jungle Jim movies, adapted from the famous comic strip.
