The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan. The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan is a satirical Oriental novel in English. It was written in 1824 by James Justinian Morier, a former British envoy who lived in Qajar Iran in 1808–1809 and 1810–1814, amidst the diplomatic difficulties that the country had with European nations. Chapter I: Hajji Baba's birth and education [edit]. My father, Kerbelai Hassan, was one of the most celebrated barbers of Ispahan. He was married, when only seventeen years of age, to the daughter of a chandler, who lived in the neighbourhood of his shop; but the connexion was not fortunate, for his wife brought him no offspring, and he, in consequence, neglected her.
