The game has three "paths" to play, which involve different undertakings of the main characters of The Return of the King.
The game's battle rating system is based on how many hits the player can deal without taking damage. This fills the player's experience bar. There are 20 rounds in this level, with every 5 rounds depicting a random deserted place in Middle-earth. In this level, the player must slay every enemy in each round in order to progress. The enemies are easy at first but get steadily harder, eventually resulting in enemies like Trolls and Champions.
