ABOUT. The Runestone Museum Foundation has been inspiring curiosity about local history and heritage for more than 50 years. The World Famous and controversial Kensington Rune Stone was the Runestone Museum’s only artifact when it opened its’ doors in 1958.
The Runestone Museum is a historical museum located in Alexandria, Minnesota, United States. Established in 1958, the museum is renowned for housing the Kensington Runestone, a controversial artifact considered by some to be evidence of pre-Columbian Viking exploration of North America.
This museum houses the runestone itself, as well as other artifacts from the history of the area. The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful. The gift shop has a bunch of neat books on viking mythology and the history of the vikings in Scandavanvia and the North American regions.
