She’d hoped that if he ever married again, he’d make her his bride. As a matter of fact, no one expected Gable to marry Sylvia—not even Gable himself.
Many, including Virginia herself, expected him to marry her. The tabloids were all expecting the wedding announcement. It was a great surprise when he hastily married Lady Sylvia Ashley in 1949.
