Being an old-time hockey player/coach himself in both Duluth and West St. Paul until age 72, he was a lifelong promotor of youth hockey and other sports. An incorporator of the youth hockey association of West St. Paul in 1965, Hoene won the West St. Paul 1970 "Man of the Year" award in recognition of his efforts for young people.

There will be a designated walking area setup for child drop-off from Emerson Ave on the west side of the property.
Jun 1, 2016 · Registration for 2023-24 Season Open! Registration for the 2023-2024 Hockey Season is open. Registration Link Below! Beginning August 16th, 2023 a late fee of $150 is charged on all Squirt/U10, Peewee/U12 and Bantam/U15 players. There are no late fees for mini-mites, mites and U8 whose registration will remain open through the start of the season.

Aug 16, 2023 · Photos courtesy of the City of West St. Paul. Namesake: The rink is named for John V. Hoene (1914-2001), who coached hockey in Duluth and West St. Paul until the age of 72. He helped launch the youth hockey association, spearheaded the effort to build the arena, and is the original inductee in the West St. Paul Hockey Hall of Fame.
