Diddy Kong (ディディーコング, Diidī Kongu in Japanese) is a character and the deuteragonist of the Donkey Kong franchise in which he first appears in Donkey Kong Country.

    Physical description

Diddy wears a red shirt with yellow stars and a red cap with the Nintendo logo. Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and most subsequent non-Rare games appearances depicted Diddy, as well as his girlfriend Dixie Kong, with five fingers and toes instead of four.

    Donkey Kong Country

In the backstory, Donkey Kong put Diddy in charge of guarding his Banana Hoard for the night. However, neither of them expected a siege by the Kremling Krew, led by King K. Rool, that night. Diddy tried to fight them off, but was overpowered by a Klump, who entire banana hoard was stolen and Diddy was forcefully stuffed into a nearby barrel. Upon being freed, Diddy explained the situation to Donkey Kong, who became extremely upset, but didn't blame him. He and Diddy went on an adventure across DK Island to get the banana hoard back.

    Donkey Kong Land

Diddy makes his second appearance. In the backstory, Cranky Kong made a bet with DK and Diddy that they would not be able to retrieve the Banana Hoard and beat K. Rool on the Game Boy system. As such, Cranky called up Kink , so they once again set out to retrieve it.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Diddy made his first appearance as a starring character. With Donkey Kong kidnapped by K. Rool and taken to the Kremlings' homeland, Crocodile Isle, Diddy set out with his new girlfriend Dixie Kong to get Donkey Kong back. Diddy received a slightly updated design. He gained a yellow star pattern for his shirt, a Nintendo logo on his hat, updated fur, nostrils and even a belly button. These features were retained in his subsequent appearances. In the ending, Diddy finally became a full-fledged video game hero. Attention Mario Wiki users!: This section is short or lacks sufficient information. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Diddy Kong is a newcomer fighter who is available at the start of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Some of Diddy's attacks are based on his moves from Donkey Kong 64, such as the Peanut Popguns, in which he shoots peanuts, and Rocketbarrel Boost, his recovery move. Aside from this, Diddy's two other special moves are Monkey Flip, in which he jumps on and beats up an enemy, and Banana Peel, in which Diddy throws behind a Banana Peel for an opponent to trip on as a trap. Diddy's Final Smash is Rocketbarrel Barrage, which is a combination of the two moves Peanut Popgun and Rocketbarrel Boost. In Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary, Diddy initially joins Donkey Kong in a quest to retrieve their stolen Banana Hoard. When they finally find it, they encounter Bowser, who turns Donkey Kong into a trophy, but not before Donkey Kong knocks Diddy Kong out of the way to rescue him. Afterward, Diddy teams up with Fox McCloud to fight a Rayquaza. Diddy later turns into a trophy by Bowser, being cloned into a False Character, but he and Fox are rescued by Falco Lombardi, who destroys Bowser’s Dark Cannon, before he could do any harm to his friend. When returned to normal by Fox, Diddy freaks out when he sees a giant false version of himself, and help him and Falco to defeat him. Diddy takes out some Primids to free Donkey Kong. Olimar and Captain Falcon go to Donkey’s rescue and help them. The group sees Diddy waving goodbye to Falco and arrives to the Dark Bomb factory.

Himself along with Rosalina and Luma were caught by the light beams. Diddy Kong was imprisoned by Galeem where he can be found at the DK Island sub-area after all spirits are defeated.

Diddy Kong appears in the Donkey Kong Country animated series, where his role as Donkey Kong's sidekick remained relatively the same as in the games. He was voiced by Andrew Sabiston.

Diddy Kong also appears in various Club Nintendo comics. Some of its stories include adaptations of Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong 64, as well as original stories.

    Creation and development

During the development of Donkey Kong Country, Diddy was originally meant to be an updated version of Donkey Kong Jr. Not liking the radical changes Rare had made to Donkey Kong Jr., Nintendo told them that they could either use Donkey Kong Jr.'s original appearance for Donkey Kong Country or rename their new version of him. Deciding to simply rename the character, who Rare felt was perfect for their updated version of Donkey Kong's world, Rare at first decided on the name "Dinky Kong", but due to unspecified legal issues settled on the name Diddy Kong. Diddy Kong's hat has had the Nintendo logo on it since Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.
