His works later inspired leading Soviet rocket engineers and contributed to the success of the Soviet space program. Tsiolkovsky spent most of his life in a log house on the outskirts of Kaluga, about 200 km southwest of Moscow.

Mar 16, 2024 · FIRST ARCHITECTURE: In 1895 in the book Dreams of Earth and Sky, Russian space pioneer Konstantin Tsiolkovsky wrote of an imaginary tower extending 36,000 kilometers high, where weightlessness would be achieved. But he fell short of inventing the concept of a space elevator and did not calculate the stresses involved.
Tsiolkovsky also wrote science fiction books, including On The Moon (1895), Dreams of the Earth and Sky (1895), and Beyond the Earth (1920). Konstantin Tsiolkovsky died at his home in Kaluga on September 19, 1935, at the age of seventy-eight.
