   Why did Charles Pinckney die?

   • Shortly after their return in 1758 to South Carolina, Charles Pinckney contracted malaria and died. Eliza continued to manage their plantations, which were extensive, as well as the Lucas holdings. Most of her agricultural experiments took place before this time.
