She is best known for her portrayal of the antagonist Nurse Ratched in the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), which earned her numerous accolades, including the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.
Aug 24, 1992 · Estelle Caldwell Fletcher, mother of Academy Award-winning actress Louise Fletcher and a pioneer in ministry to the deaf, has died at age 91. Mrs. Fletcher, a longtime Birmingham resident, died Monday in Alexandria, Va., where her funeral was held yesterday.
Estelle Louise Fletcher was born in 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama, the second of four children to Estelle (nee Caldwell) and Robert Capers Fletcher, an Episcopal preacher.
