He was the first person in the history of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics to win three consecutive 110 meters hurdles titles (1983, 1987, and 1991). One of track and field's greatest hurdlers, Foster helped lead UCLA to the 1978 NCAA title and won individual championships in the 110m hurdles in 1978 and 1980 and in the 200m in 1979.
