Yes, it's canon and takes place between seasons. It’s not necessary that you see it before season 3 but I highly recommend watching it since it was a really good movie imo. I used to get confused how it's integrated in the story, but I watched it twice now and yes, it's canon. Imo you don't have to watch it, but I definitely would.
