Mission San Fernando Rey de España is a Spanish mission in the Mission Hills community of Los Angeles, California. The mission was founded on 8 September 1797 at the site of Achooykomenga, and was the seventeenth of the twenty-one Spanish missions established in Alta California.
Visiting the Mission. The convento (guest house) building features unique river-of-life designs on the doors, and wrought iron locks. There are also two original fountains, as well as a library and museum. The elaborate altar was carved from walnut and dates to 1697.

On September 8, 1797, the fourth Mission founded by Father Lasuén in less than three months was named San Fernando Rey de España. Although the Mission was supposed to relieve the long march between San Gabriel and San Buenaventura, the aged Padre set it somewhat to the south because of the barren terrain and poor drainage of the middle area.
