There is a high and holy fear in which the Christian passes the time of his sojourn here ( 1Peter 1:17 ); but there is a base and selfish fear, a fear of man, which brings a snare; those who have faith enter boldly the strife, following the Lamb whithersoever He goeth, and conquering by faith.

Fire is the response to fear from the God who does not change (Malachi 3:6). Fear, then, is the result of a lack of faith, not believing in God's power and especially His love and willingness to act on our behalf.
But to the fearful and unbelieving, and sinners, and those who make themselves abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.
