The idea of using Tchaikovsky's 'Sleeping Beauty' music for the background score and songs was an excellent decision. This is a film that can be enjoyed on so many different levels--music, animation, story, art work--it ranks with the very best of the classic fairy-tales from Disney.

Sleeping Beauty is an animated film that Disney released in 1959. I'm happy to say that I found more than expected to enjoy about this movie. Most of what I held on to throughout the short run time were little aspects of the film that seem to have been lost to time, for better or worse.

The animation is – as with all the early Disney’s – jaw-droppingly good. Thanks to its recent restoration, this film is also full of eye-popping colours, with the bright pinks and blues of the fairies’ frocks providing a terrific contrast to the sickly purples and greens of Maleficent’s castle.
