Dan Sa Yu or otherwise known as the King of War is the main protagonist of Memoir of the King of War. He is a person of Goryeo (Ancient Korea) and used to live with two of his friend Gung Mu Ae and Gung Jeok San in Gung Village located in the Nangrim Mountains.
After a fortuitous encounter with a master and because of his kind gesture to the master, Dan Sa Yu who was on the verge of death was saved by said master. The master would then pass on his martial arts called Heavenly Artillery General to Dan Sa Yu. In the wake of his master's death, Dan Sa Yu sought to find his master's daughter and his friend Gung Mu Ae who were both missing.
Dan Sa Yu can be considered as a handsome young man, compared to others he has an average height and is fairly thin. It is stated by Han Mu Baek that this martial arts interprets with other martial arts that have been defeated by it. He says that they can even kill Immortals.
This martial arts targets one blood vessel and stimulate it and it can cause the human body to collapse. Their are no particular method for this martial arts only ravaging ,tightening, breaking joints and damaging muscles.
