The National Library of the Czech Republic, the largest and oldest public library in the country, is housed in the unique Baroque premises of the former Jesuit College in the Clementinum. Its universal library collection is focused on the needs of university-type colleges and research institutes.
The Clementinum, Klementinum in Czech, is the second largest architectural complex in Prague after the Prague Castle. The buildings hosted a Jesuit college until the eighteenth century and it then became part of Charles University. It currently houses the National Library of the Czech Republic.
