There are day tours ($25+), night tours ($48+), behind-the-scenes tours ($90+), the Bay Discovery Cruise ($25+ and includes a 90-minute sightseeing cruise), and an Alcatraz/Angel Island combo tour.

You are provided e-tickets which can be scanned from a smartphone at the ferry entrance. The ferry appears to run throughout the day. About 10-15mins to load and 15mins to travel to/from the island. Alcatraz Island is maintained by the US National Parks Service. As the ferry unloaded, our group was met by a ranger who provided a short monologue.

In 1976, Alcatraz Island became part of the National Register of Historic Places, and in 1986 it became a National Historic Landmark. Self guided tours have restarted and ticketing remains online. During the summer plan ahead with purchasing tickets a few weeks in advance.
