“Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice found there” was published in December 1871 (but was dated 1872), indeed in an edition of 9,000 copies. The exact day of publication is unknown, but according to Macmillan’s ‘Editions book’, the first printing occurred on 18 November 1871 ( Imholtz ).
