Mar 21, 2020 · American Graffiti was actually not the first movie for the 1955 Chevy 210s to star in. They had been built specifically for producer Gary Kutz’s movie Two-Lane Blacktop. So two years later when American Graffiti started filming, the Chevy 210’s were “seasoned” car actors.

May 11, 2016 · Three black ‘55 Chevrolets were built for American Graffiti but the only survivor is unrecognizably modified. Figari said builder Richard Ruth had one extra car left after the movie, “so he built it exactly like Harrison Ford’s car, for me.”

There were three black ‘55 Chevy’s used in the film, two of which were also used in the 1971 movie Two Lane Blacktop. The one used for exterior shots for both movies and driven by Harrison Ford in American Graffiti had a fiberglass shell that covered a 427 motor coupled to an M-22 Muncie transmission and 4.88 Olds rear-end.
This '55 was one of three built for Two-Lane Blacktop, and one of two that were reused in American Graffiti - the other '55 from Two-Lane Blacktop was a stunt car with a six-point rollcage and is the one that rolls over in the drag race scene at the end of American Graffiti.
