Amnon was the half-brother of Tamar, as they shared the same father, David. Tamar is described as a virgin and “beautiful,” and Amnon was highly attracted to her (2 Samuel 13:1–2).
Amnon compounded Tamar’s sin by casting her out. Amnon gave Tamar multiple reasons to feel sorrow. First, he humiliated her by tricking her into coming to his house to help him and then raping her. Second, he brought shame upon her by causing them both to violated God’s laws against incest.
