A combination of Google Flights, going direct on the airlines websites (unless there is a significant savings I prefer booking direct instead of through another party), Momondo, and Skiplagged. I like Kayak too since I can enter if I will be taking a carry on bag, or/and a checked in bag.

tldr: it mostly depends on the destination, but you'll mostly find better deals and have overall good experience via booking.com and Airbnb. The vast majority of all accomodation is available via 3 big players: Booking Holdings, Expedia Group and Airbnb.
Use multiple sites. I use google flights, kiwi, skyscanner the most. I find flights that are on one site, but not on other sites very often. Especially for non-direct flights, its even more important.
