Brad Foxhoven is an American film producer and entertainment executive. He served as president and co-founder of several video game and comic book development companies, namely Top Cow Productions, Tiger Hill Entertainment and Titan Productions. including Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank.
Foxhoven was attached to a live-action film adaptation of Metroid with John Woo as a producer during his time at Tiger Hill in the early 2000s. He saw it as a "big-budget picture" and a "tremendous opportunity to launch a film franchise." It was planned to be released before 2006. He stated that the film production staff had to assume that the mainstream film audience would not be familiar with the Metroid property, but that the movie would stay true to the games and feature Samus in a battle for control of the galaxy against Mother Brain and the Metroids.
However, the film never made it to any stage beyond a treatment. Given the poor performance of the Super Mario Bros. live-action film, Nintendo sought to maintain tighter control over the Metroid film, which intended to focus on and expand Samus Aran's character. Samus's origin story from before she became a Bounty Hunter was not something Nintendo had detailed at the time (they later did with a two volume manga and Metroid: Other M), and they were reticent to allow Tiger Hill to do so.
These creative disagreements ultimately led to the project's demise in 2007, and the film rights to Metroid expired. Foxhoven focused on executively producing Stranglehold. However, he was optimistic that Metroid would one day come to the silver screen, knowing that Nintendo walked away from the process appreciating it, and their need to further explore the franchise so it could have the potential for a feature film.
