  1. Aug 14, 2010 · Apr 7, 2005. augusta, ga. i know little of ukes, but i'd bet the bridge is only glued to the top (like a classical guitar), so my guess would be to find nylon bass strings. not just nylon WOUND, but all nylon (like classical guitar strings)! otherwise, say bye bye to your bridge if you put steel strings on it.

  2. Mar 15, 2016 · I used the 4 bass strings from a D'Addario EJ27N set on a Lanikai baritone, and tuned it exactly like the 4 bass notes of a guitar. A bass guitar tuned in this way is called a "Piccolo Bass." I did not have to make any changes to the bridge, but did have to widen (not deepen) the nut slots. The strings wound on the pegs just fine.

  4. Aug 3, 2017 · Well-known member. For bari linear G tuning, I use polished flatwound guitar A and D strings for the bari 4th and 3rd, specifically Thomastik-Infeld CF35 and CF30 singles. If you wish to avoid wound strings, my next best recommendation is the Aquila red singles (I believe the red sets come with wound strings instead).
