Reader surveys have been conducted by science fiction magazines since 1948 (Adams & Wallace, 2011; Campbell, 1949, 1958; Carnell, 1955, 1964; Hamilton, 1954; Van Gelder, 2003).
Overall, Fiction as Research Practice: Short Stories, Novellas, and Novels serves as a great introduction to fiction-based research. Leavy does a great job of explaining how the emergent research method of fiction-based research can be conducted, evaluated, and used.
