Feb 14, 2022 · Cast bullets work for people who do not need to take long shots at game. As you have experienced, there are no performance advantages in a cast .30 caliber bullet. IMO cast starts to make sense once you get over .35 cal at ranges under 200 yards.

When I first got my original Chrony the 148gr factory HBWC 38 Special target loads were supposed to be 750fps but were more like 650fps from a 6" S&W M28. They grouped fine @ 25yds and were about dead soft lead. Try target level loads and you will do fine. Your sizing diameter will have the greatest impact on accuracy. KB
Jan 4, 2011 · Mike's cast-bullet handloads are capable of fine accuracy. The .30-06 2.00-inch group is at 100 yards while the .40-65 3.5-inch group is at 300yards. For the 800-, 900-, and 1000-yard matches I use another Creedmoor-style bullet that weighs 544 grains from a mold made by Steve Brooks.

We don’t always need full house loads for the .44 Magnum leverguns. For lighter applications I have had good results with the hard-cast 240-gr. bullets from Oregon Trail. Using both Universal and Unique in 8.5 and 10.0 grain doses resulted in good groups at 50 yards of 2″ or less.
