The Visitor Center at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, developed by architectural firm HGA, opened for education classes in January of 2005 and celebrated its public opening in February 2005. The Visitor Center is 65,000 square feet and features meeting rooms, classrooms, and event spaces, in addition to a large auditorium and the Zobota Cafe.
1954 St. Paul Humane Society building is built. Road is named Beulah lane, in honor of Beulah Bartlett, the executive director from 1923 to 1963. 1955 Saint Paul Nagasaki Sister City relationship is established, making it the first Japanese-American city partnership. 1956 Archie Brand brings his famous Seal Show to Como Zoo.
