The University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, also known as the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM), is an accredited medical school located in Los Angeles, California, United States. Founded in 1951, it is the second medical school in the University of California system, after the UCSF School of Medicine.
The School thereafter was named David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. On December 13, 2012, UCLA announced that Geffen had donated another $100 million in addition to his 2002 donation of $200 million, making him the largest individual benefactor for the UC system . [ 30 ]
Misdiagnosed with bladder cancer in 1976 (it wasn't until 1980 that he found out that he was not afflicted), he has since been a major contributor to medical charities and foundations, and has had several buildings named after him, such as The Geffen Playhouse and The David Geffen School of Medicine, both at UCLA.
