This study aimed to investigate whether nitrate use increased the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with HFpEF. The present study is not a prespecified secondary analysis of the Treatment of Preserved Cardiac Function Heart Failure With an Aldosterone Antagonist (TOPCAT) trial data.
Exogenous nitrate therapy has beneficial effects for HF treatment at the cellular and hemodynamic level by enhancing endothelium dependent vasodilation and improving systolic function and exercise capacity and inhibiting cardiac remodeling in black and non-black HF patients (8,12,13,17–19).
