The Marvelettes were an American girl group that achieved popularity in the early to mid-1960s. They consisted of schoolmates Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart (now Cowart Motley), and Georgia Dobbins, who was replaced by Wanda Rogers prior to the group signing their first deal.
“Destination Anywhere,” the last Marvelettes hit, was published in 1968. Despite the fact that the group had stopped composing music by 1969, they continued to perform and Motown released four songs by them between 1969 and 1971, none of which were commercially successful.
“Destination: Anywhere” is the trio’s final R&B chart success, penned and produced by a new creative pair at Motown, Valerie Simpson and Nickolas Ashford. The girl group’s last Hot 100 credit belongs to “That’s How Heartaches Are Made” in 1969, a Wanda-led remake of a Baby Washington R&B hit from six years earlier.
