    Personal life

Wilkinson was born in Vietnam in 1974 and spent the first six months of her life in an orphanage in Saigon after being orphaned during the war. She was then flown to Sydney, Australia, where she was adopted by white parents. She graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a bachelor's degree in Communications, specializing in Media Studies and Film Theory.

    Career

Wilkinson began her directorial career in 2002 on the Australian soap opera Home and Away, going on to direct 120 episodes in total, and also directed 167 episodes of fellow soap opera Neighbours across a four year stint. In 2008, she began directing episodes of the medical drama All Saints, totaling nine episodes across the penultimate two seasons, and in 2013 began working on the comedy series Wonderland, directing four episodes across the first two seasons and later becoming a producer for seasons two and three. She directed two episodes of the series Wentworth Prison in 2013, later returning to direct two more in the fourth season in 2016. After moving from Australia to America in 2015, she directed three episodes of the series Madam Secretary a year later and also landed a three-season stint as co-executive producer and director on the US drama series How To Get Away With Murder. She attributed being signed to helm the latter show as "the kiss of luck", having been recommended for a temporary directing role on the show by another director she was visiting at the time. In 2017, she directed an episode of the Marvel series Iron Fist, and would also later go on to direct episodes of The Punisher, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil. In 2019, she was named an executive producer on the second and third seasons of drama series The Chi, on top of directing seven episodes, and in 2022 was director and consulting producer on the first season of the FX series The Old Man. She is an executive producer and director on the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which came out in full in early 2024.
