Amebiasis is a parasitic disease (also known as amebic dysentery or amoebic dysentery and/or amoebiasis) caused by infection with Entamoeba histolytica or another amoeba (for example, E. dispar). Most individuals with the disease may have no symptoms. E. histolytica is the species that produces symptoms only in about 10% of those infected.
