Every Man a King (1933) is an autobiography by Huey Long, who served as the 40th governor of Louisiana and as a member of the United States Senate. Aged 39 at the time, Long would be assassinated two years later. The book explores Long's rise to power.
But before he could progress farther, he was assassinated in Baton Rouge in 1935. Long's ultimate ambition, of course, was the presidency, and it was doubtless with this goal in mind that he wrote this spirited and fascinating account of his life, an autobiography every bit as daring and controversial as was The Kingfish himself.
