Return to Oz is a 1985 dark fantasy film released by Walt Disney Pictures, co-written and directed by Walter Murch. It stars Nicol Williamson , Jean Marsh , Piper Laurie , and Fairuza Balk as Dorothy Gale in her first screen role.
While in London, Balk was cast by Walt Disney Productions to star as Dorothy Gale in Return to Oz, the sequel to MGM's 1939 musical The Wizard of Oz. This role led to others, including that of Mildred Hubble in The Worst Witch .
Fairuza worked for the Walt Disney Company for a while; at 11, she was chosen from 1,200 girls to star as Dorothy in Return to Oz (1985). The next year she starred, prophetically enough, as The Worst Witch (1986) a harbinger of her breakout role in The Craft (1996) 10 years later.
Fairuza Alejandra Balk (May 21st 1974- ) is an actress who played Dorothy Gale in Walt Disney's 1985 live-action fantasy film Return to Oz, the unofficial sequel of the 1939 MGM movie The Wizard of Oz. Her debut began with a television film called The Best Christmas Pageant Ever in 1983.
