On many of the trails along the creek you can see the remnants of locks and lock keepers houses of the Sandy and Beaver Canal. Some of the history includes the Ghost of Gretchen’s Lock and the death site of famous bank robber, Pretty Boy Floyd. There is a huge campground with shelter house, high lines and restrooms.
Charles Arthur Floyd, better known as “Pretty Boy” Floyd, was shot and killed by FBI agents in 1934 in fields that are now part of Beaver Creek State Park. Floyd was known for robbing several banks around the Midwest and ended up with the notorious “Public Enemy No. 1” designation by the FBI.
