I’m aware of the depressing stories lately about an epidemic of brain injuries in football, hockey, boxing and so on, but in “Goon,” we have to accept that it’s about a different era in hockey, or the world. If you start thinking too much about concussions, it will spoil the movie for you.

  5. 8/10. It's all about the "feel". jimhurcomb 28 February 2012. There is one element that distinguishes a "great" sports movie from a "good" sports movie. It's "the feel". It doesn't matter if the movie is about baseball, basketball, football or hockey. If it doesn't smack of authenticity you might as well flip over to a live game.

  6. This movie's characters are thinly drawn, and many of them aren't all that likable. Doug isn't a particularly bright guy -- as even he admits in several scenes -- but he's smart enough to realize that being a goon might be a decent career for a man with few other skills. Goon the movie, however is even less intelligent.
