  2. Aug 22, 2008 · From the info I've found, Smith is/was a pretty old company from Bowling Green, KY that started converting Model A Ford engines into compressors back in the 30's. They ran a special head; used two outer cylinders to run the engine, the center cyl.'s acted as a compressor. Apparently, they evolved with the times, building compressors from Ford.
