Aug 22, 2008 · From the info I've found, Smith is/was a pretty old company from Bowling Green, KY that started converting Model A Ford engines into compressors back in the 30's. They ran a special head; used two outer cylinders to run the engine, the center cyl.'s acted as a compressor. Apparently, they evolved with the times, building compressors from Ford.

From 1932 to 1953 converted Model As, later using their own sheetmetal when Model As ran out. Thousands were made. In 1953 Smith changed to Chrysler 6s, Ford V8s and others.

Three months later, he had sold them in 18 states. On February 26, 1935, he won U.S. patent number 1,992,400.
