Despite media hype of it being the sequel to the massively successful Purple Rain, it was a commercial and critical failure and was included on several Worst of 1990 movie lists. Graffiti Bridge currently holds an 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 28 reviews, with an average rating of 3.7/10.
Graffiti Bridge is more of Prince's metaphysical bollocks, but the music is better than in Purple Rain, so overall the film is more watchable. Morris Day and Jerome are always a winning screen team (they could have been an African-American Abbott and Costello) and the stunningly beautiful Ingrid Chavez makes her one and only screen appearance ...
Nov 2, 1990 · Graffiti Bridge is a sad fiasco — and except for Shake! the music (at least to my ears) is Prince at his most joyless, a collection of glorified rhythm tracks. For the first time, the revolutionary funkster seems to be preaching to a world that has left him behind.
